Use the Manage Activities tab in the Activities Manager module to create a new activity. Each new activity created here is shown as a child activity module in the module bar:
- It is not recommended that you create a high number of child activity modules as each child activity module displays in the module bar. A high number of child activity modules could be confusing. For example, create child activity modules for 'Extra Curricular' and 'Sport' and list individual activities within these modules.
- Use Categories and Groups within each child activity module to list different activities and the groups of pupils within them. For example, in the child activity module 'Sport' add a category of 'Rugby' and list groups for 'U13A', 'U13B', etc. Pupils and staff are then added to each group.
- Child modules can be customised so that features suit the specific activity. For example, enable the Events Result feature in the 'Sports' child module so that the results of sporting fixtures can be logged. The same feature can be disabled for the 'Extra Curricular' child module where it is not needed.
To create a new activity:
- Open the Activities Manager module and select the Manage Activities tab.
- Click Create Activity. The Create Activity window is displayed:
Complete the fields in the Properties tab:
Section Explanation Core Information - Activity Type. Select a status for the activity. Only activities marked as 'Current' are displayed as a child activity module in the module bar.
- Activity Name. Enter a clear and concise name for the activity. This is displayed in the module bar and throughout iSAMS.
- Activity Code. Enter a clear code for the activity. Codes are used as an identifier when pupil lists are exported and imported into activity groups.
- Activity Image. Click in the field and select an appropriate icon for the activity. This is displayed in the module bar.
Optional Information Add a description for the activity. This is optional. - Select the Publications tab and choose whether the activity is to be displayed in the Parent and Pupil Portals. The Activities Manager module must also be linked in the Parent and Pupil Portals for this to operate as expected.
- Select user permissions for the activity in the Permissions tab:
- Use the drop down list in the top right of the window to select a 'Security Group', 'User Group' or 'Username' to set permissions for.
- Use the checkboxes to set different levels of permission for each group or user listed. Groups and users with no boxes checked default to no activity access and the child activity module is not displayed in their module bar.
- Select the Terminology tab and edit the default terminology used throughout the activity as required:
For example, change the term Event to 'Match' and 'Matches' and edit the A or An? term accordingly. - Click Save & Close once you have completed all the tabs.
Click My Options at the top of the screen and click Reload iSAMS:
This ensures that the module is updated and the new child activity module is displayed in the module bar.
You can now add categories and groups to the child activity module and link pupils and staff to the activity.
