Using the School Life Options > Setting Up School News

Use the School News screen in the Features tab to set up the School News feature for use in the Parent Portal. Use this to publish general school news stories and display to portal users.

The information in the School News option is closely linked with the News Manager module. Only stories that are set to be visible to parents in the Parent Portal are displayed when the School News feature is enabled. Parents are only shown published articles that are applicable to their children, such as certain year group information.

Choose to:

• Enable the School News feature for use in the Parent Portal.
• Set up the news stories displayed in the School News feature.

Enable the School News Feature

To enable the School News feature in the Parent Portal, follow the steps below:

1. In the Parent Portal Manager module, select the Features tab.
2. Select  School News from the right hand menu.
   The School News Options screen is displayed.
3. Select the Properties tab.
   An example of the screen displayed is shown below:
4. In the School News Status field, select 'Open' from the drop down list.
5. Either:
   
   • Click Save Properties when finished. The School News feature is available from the 'Calendar & News' tab in the header bar of the Parent Portal.
     or
   • Click Reload Properties to revert to previously saved settings.

Managing School News in the Parent Portal

Use the School News option to manage school news stories that are published to the Parent Portal. You can add, edit or delete news stories, allowing you to update the information displayed to portal users. You can also print individual news stories, as required.

The management options available in School News are identical to those available in the News Manager module.

To manage school news stories displayed in the Parent Portal, follow the steps below:

1. In the Parent Portal Manager module, select the Features tab.
2. Select  School News from the right hand menu.
   The School News Options screen is displayed.
3. Select the News Manager tab.
   An example of the screen displayed is shown below:

4. Choose to:

   • Add a news story to School News.

   • Edit details for a story.
   • Authorise a story for inclusion in the School News feature.
   • Delete a story.
   • Print a story.
