Edit Calculated Columns
Choose to edit the properties of the Calculated Columns in your Tracking Model. For example, change the formula used in a Calculated Column or apply a Tracking Style to the information displayed.
A number of methods are available to you for editing Calculated Columns, select one to suit you:
- Edit any of the properties in an individual Calculated Column.
- Edit the formula used in a selected Calculated Column. Use this for quick formula changes.
- Edit selected properties in bulk for all the Calculated Columns in your Tracking Model. Use this to edit the display detailing in Calculated Columns, such as the column name or styling.
Edit an Individual Calculated Column
To edit the properties of a selected Calculated Column in detail, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Either:
Select in the Models Sidebar and click in the Calculated Column that you want to edit.
or
Right click in the header of the Calculated Column you want to edit and select Edit Column from the menu displayed.
The Edit Calculated Columns window is displayed. Four tabs are available for you to work through:
4. Select the Column Properties tab and edit the sections available:
Section | Explanation |
Characteristic Properties | Element Name. Change the name used to describe the Calculated Column. Ensure that it is still easily identifiable. Element Code. Change the code used to identify the Calculated Column. Use a more concise term if required, this is displayed in your Tracking Model. Element Active. Select Yes to start using the Calculated Column. Active Calculated Column are identified by the icon in the Manage Calculated Columns window. Selecting No makes the Calculated Column inactive and you are unable to use it. |
Characteristic Options | Hidden Element. Choose to hide the Calculated Column if you do not want it to display in your Tracking Model. Your selection influences the display of the Calculated Column only. The data in a hidden Calculated Column is still active. Visible Calculated Column are identified by the icon in the Manage Calculated Columns window. Element Sorting. Select an appropriate method of sorting the results displayed in the Calculated Column. For example, for numerical effort grades choose to sort by number. Use if you need to add a new Sorting Object. See Using the Sorting Wizard for more information on creating a new Sorting Object. Element Style. Select a style to apply to the results displayed. For example, apply a style for effort grades which colour codes effort grades according to their value. This makes your Tracking Model easier to read 'at-a-glance'. Use if you need to add a new Tracking Style. See Stage 1 : Style Wizard for more information on creating a new Tracking Style. |
5. Select the Column Formula tab and edit the Column Formula applied to your Tracking Model.
Use the on-screen tips to help you. For example, to calculate the average of columns E, F and G use (E+F+G)/3.
6. Select the Column Adjustments tab and edit the sections available:
Section | Explanation |
Column Adjustments | Select either: Gradeset Column. Select to apply a Gradeset Object, where appropriate, to translate varying numerical values into easily identifiable grades. For example, translate percentage score exam results into grades A-E. Use this to display common values in the columns of your Tracking Model, making it easier to read 'at-a-glance'. Use if you need to add a new Gradeset Object. See Using the Gradeset Wizard for more information on creating a new Gradeset Object. or Transpose Column. Select to apply a Transpose Object, where appropriate, to change the format of the values displayed. For example, transpose numerical effort grades into grades A-E. Use this to display common values in the columns of your Tracking Model, making it easier to read 'at-a-glance'. Use if you need to add a new Transpose Object. See Using the Transpose Wizard for more information on creating a new Transpose Object. |
Column Format | Select the type of data you are displaying, for example text data or numerical data. Adjust the decimal places, if applicable. |
Column Values | Add a Column Prefix or Column Suffix, where appropriate. For example, use this to display '%' in percentage score exam results to clarify the data displayed in your Tracking Model. |
7. Select the Column Options tab. Use the check boxes to display statistics for the Calculated Column in your Tracking Model. This provides useful 'at-a-glance' statistics.
8. Click Save & Close and return to the Tracking Model screen.
9. Click .
The amended Calculated Column is displayed in your Tracking Model.

Edit a Calculated Column Formula
Quickly edit the formula used in a Calculated Column if you need to.
Follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Either:
Select from the Models Sidebar and click next to the Calculated Column you want to edit.
or
Right click in the header of the Calculated Column you want to edit and select Manage Formula from the menu displayed.
The Edit Calculated Column window is displayed with the Column Formula tab selected.
4. Enter a new Column Formula to apply to your Tracking Model.
Use the on-screen tips to help you. For example, to calculate the average of columns E, F and G use (E+F+G)/3.
5. Click Save & Close.
6. Click .
The amended Calculated Column is displayed in your Tracking Model.
Bulk Edit Calculated Column Properties
To edit Calculated Column properties in bulk, either:
1. Open your selected Tracking Model.
2. Select in the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Calculated Columns window.
3. Click at the top of the window.
Use the fields and drop down boxes available to edit the properties of the Calculated Columns displayed. You can choose to apply different properties to each Calculated Column using this method.
4. Click to save the changes you have made.
5. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.

or
1. Open your selected Tracking Model.
2. Select in the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Calculated Columns window.
3. Use the check boxes to select the Calculated Columns you want to edit. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Calculated Columns displayed.
4. Use to select Column Objects.
The Group Edit Data Columns window is displayed. An example is shown below:
5. Select the Display & Adjustments tab. Use the drop down lists available to alter the Tracking Objects applied to all the selected Calculated Columns.
Add new Tracking Objects, if required. Click on the icons to the right of the drop down boxes to open each of the Tracking Object Wizards. See Using the Tracking Object Wizards for more information.
6. Select the Column Options tab. Use the check boxes to change the display of statistics for all the selected Calculated Columns. This provides useful 'at-a-glance' statistics for each Calculated Column.
7. Click Save & Close to save the changes you have made.
8. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
9. Click .
Arrange Calculated Columns
Change the order that Calculated Columns are displayed in your Tracking Model to suit you. Be aware that changing the order of Calculated Columns can influence the way your Column Formula works. Column Formula refer to the column letter not column name, moving columns can alter the way your Column Formula works.
To arrange Calculated Columns, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Either:
Select from the Models Sidebar.
or
Select from the Models Sidebar and click in the top of the window.
The Arrange Elements window is displayed, an example is shown below:
4. Select the Calculated Column that you want to move. Use the arrows available to move it up or down the list. You can also move Dataset Elements in this window, if required.
5. Click Save & Close.
6. Click .
The Calculated Columns are now displayed in your Tracking Model in the revised order.
Delete Calculated Columns
Remove any Calculated Columns from your Tracking Model that you no longer require.
Choose to:
- Delete individual Calculated Columns.
- Delete Calculated Columns in bulk. This saves you time when you need to delete a number of Calculated Columns from your Tracking Model.
Delete Individual Calculated Columns
To delete a selected Calculated Columns, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Either:
Select in the Models Sidebar and click in the Calculated Columns that you want to delete.
or
Right click in the header of the Calculated Column you want to delete and select Delete Column from the menu displayed.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to delete this calculated column from this model?
4. Select Yes and return to the Tracking Model screen.
5. Click .
The Calculated Column is removed from your Tracking Model.
Bulk Delete Calculated Columns
To delete Calculated Columns in bulk, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select in the Models Sidebar.
The Manage Calculated Columns window is displayed.
4. Use the check boxes available to select the Calculated Columns you want to delete. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Calculated Columns displayed.
5. Use to select Delete Columns.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to delete this calculated column from this model?
6. Select Yes.
7. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
8. Click .
Your selected Calculated Columns are removed from your Tracking Model.
Reset Calculated Columns
Reset Calculated Columns if you want to remove all the Calculated Columns in your Tracking Model. None of the Pupil Characteristics or Dataset Elements in your Tracking Model are lost by when you choose to reset Calculated Columns. This is useful when you have copied a Tracking Model and want to setup new Calculated Columns for the pupils listed.
To reset Calculated Columns, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select in the Models Sidebar.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to reset the calculated columns on this model?
4. Select Yes.
You are prompted The calculated columns on this model have been reset. The model will now reload.
5. Click OK.
6. Click .
The Run Model screen is displayed without any Calculated Columns.
Duplicate a Calculated Column
Choose to duplicate a Calculated Column in your Tracking Manager. This is useful when you want to apply either a Gradeset or Transpose Object to a Calculated Column. You can list both original data and the altered data in your Tracking Model.
To duplicate a Calculated Column, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Right click in the header of the Calculated Column you want to duplicate and select Duplicate Column from the menu displayed.
4. Click .
The duplicated Calculated Column is displayed in your Tracking Model.
Activate Calculated Columns
Choose to activate a Calculated Column to start using it in your Tracking Model.
To activate Calculated Columns, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select from the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Calculated Columns window.
Disabled Calculated Columns are identified by the icon.
4. Use the check boxes available to select the Calculated Columns you want to activate. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Calculated Columns displayed.
5. Use to select Activate Columns.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to activate this data element from this model?
6. Select Yes.
7. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
8. Click .
Your Tracking Model is displayed with the activated Calculated Columns.
Disable Calculated Columns
You can temporarily disable selected Calculated Columns to suit you. Disabling a Calculated Column blocks the active status until you need it again.
To disable Calculated Columns, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select from the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Calculated Columns window.
Active Calculated Columns are identified by the icon.
4. Use the check boxes available to select the Calculated Columns you want to disable. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Calculated Columns displayed..
5. Use to select Disable Columns.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to disable this data element from this model?
6. Select Yes.
7. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
8. Click .
Your Tracking Model is displayed without the disabled Calculated Columns.
Quickly disable a selected Calculated Column using the right click menu in the header of a selected Calculated Column. Select Disable Column from the menu displayed. |
Hide Calculated Columns
Choose to hide a Calculated Column if you do not want it to display in your Tracking Model. Your selection influences the display of the Calculated Column only. The data in a hidden Calculated Column is still active. You may choose to temporarily hide a Calculated Column to save space, select to show it again at any time.
To hide Calculated Columns, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select from the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Calculated Columns window.
Visible Calculated Columns are identified by the icon.
4. Use the check boxes available to select the Calculated Columns you want to hide. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Calculated Columns displayed.
5. Use to select Hide Columns.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to hide this data element from this model?
6. Select Yes.
7. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
8. Click .
Your Tracking Model is displayed without the hidden Calculated Columns.
Quickly hide a selected Calculated Column using the right click menu in the header of a selected Calculated Column. Select Hide Column from the menu displayed. |
Show Calculated Columns
To show Calculated Columns, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select from the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Calculated Columns window.
Hidden Calculated Columns have no icon in the column.
4. Use the check boxes available to select the Calculated Columns you want to show. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Calculated Columns displayed.
5. Use to select Show Columns.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to show this data element from this model?
6. Select Yes.
7. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
8. Click .
Your Tracking Model is displayed with the Calculated Columns you have selected to show.
