Edit Dataset Element Columns
Choose to edit the properties of the Dataset Element columns in your Tracking Model. For example, change the name of a Dataset Element column or apply a Tracking Style to the information displayed.
A number of methods are available to you for editing Dataset Element columns, select one to suit you:
- Edit any of the properties in an individual Dataset Element column.
- Edit selected properties in bulk for all the Dataset Element columns in your Tracking Model.
Edit an Individual Dataset Element Column
To edit the properties of a selected Dataset Element column in detail, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Either:
Select in the Models Sidebar and click in the Dataset Element column that you want to edit.
or
Right click in the header of the Dataset Element column you want to edit and select Edit Column from the menu displayed.
The Edit Data Column window is displayed. An example is shown below:
4. Edit the sections available in the Column Display tab, as required:
Section | Explanation |
Characteristic Properties | Element Name. Change the name used to describe the Dataset Element column. Ensure that it is still easily identifiable. Element Code. Change the code used to identify the Dataset Element column. Use a more concise term if required, this is displayed in your Tracking Model. Element Active. Select Yes to start using the Dataset Element column. Active Dataset Element column are identified by the icon in the Manage Dataset Elements window. Selecting No makes the Dataset Element column inactive and you are unable to use it. |
Characteristic Options | Hidden Element. Choose to hide the Dataset Element column if you do not want it to display in your Tracking Model. Your selection influences the display of the Dataset Element column only. The data in a hidden Dataset Element column is still active. Visible Dataset Element columns are identified by the icon in the Manage Dataset Elements window. Element Sorting. Select an appropriate method of sorting the results displayed in the Dataset Element column. For example, for numerical effort grades choose to sort by number. Use if you need to add a new Sorting Object. See Using the Sorting Wizard for more information on creating a new Sorting Object. Element Style. Select a style to apply to the results displayed. For example, apply a style for effort grades which colour codes effort grades according to their value. This makes your Tracking Model easier to read 'at-a-glance'. Use if you need to add a new Tracking Style. See Stage 1: Style Wizard for more information on creating a new Tracking Style. |
5. Select the Column Adjustment tab in the Edit Data Column window.
An example is shown below:
6. Edit the sections available, as required:
Section | Explanation |
Column Adjustments | Select either: Gradeset Column. Select to apply a Gradeset Object, where appropriate, to translate varying numerical values into easily identifiable grades. For example, translate percentage score exam results into grades A-E. Use this to display common values in the columns of your Tracking Model, making it easier to read 'at-a-glance'. Use if you need to add a new Gradeset Object. See Using the Gradeset Wizard for more information on creating a new Gradeset Object. or Transpose Column. Select to apply a Transpose Object, where appropriate, to change the format of the values displayed. For example, transpose numerical effort grades into grades A-E. Use this to display common values in the columns of your Tracking Model, making it easier to read 'at-a-glance'. Use if you need to add a new Transpose Object. See Using the Transpose Wizard for more information on creating a new Transpose Object. |
Column Format | Select the type of data you are displaying, for example text data or numerical data. Adjust the decimal places, if applicable. |
Column Values | Add a Column Prefix or Column Suffix, where appropriate. For example, use this to display '%' in percentage score exam results to clarify the data displayed in your Tracking Model. |
7. Select the Column Options tab. Use the check boxes to display statistics for the Dataset Element column in your Tracking Model. This provides useful 'at-a-glance' statistics.
8. Click Save & Close.
9. Click .
The amended Dataset Element column is displayed in your Tracking Model.

Bulk Edit Dataset Element Columns
To edit Dataset Element column properties in bulk, either:
1. Open your selected Tracking Model.
2. Select in the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Dataset Elements window.
3. Click at the top of the window.
Use the fields and drop down boxes available to edit the properties of the Dataset Element columns displayed. You can choose to apply different properties to each Dataset Element column using this method.
4. Click to save the changes you have made.
5. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.

or
1. Open your selected Tracking Model.
2. Select in the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Dataset Elements window.
3. Use the check boxes to select the Dataset Element columns you want to edit. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Dataset Element columns displayed.
4. Use to select Column Objects.
The Group Edit Data Columns window is displayed. An example is shown below:
5. Select the Display & Adjustments tab. Use the drop down lists available to alter the Tracking Objects applied to all the selected Dataset Element columns.
Add new Tracking Objects, if required. Click on the icons to the right of the drop down boxes to open each of the Tracking Object Wizards. See Using the Tracking Object Wizards for more information.
6. Select the Column Options tab. Use the check boxes to change the display of statistics for the selected Dataset Element columns. This provides useful 'at-a-glance' statistics.
7. Click Save & Close to save the changes you have made.
8. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.

Arrange Dataset Element Columns
Change the order that Dataset Element columns are displayed in your Tracking Model to suit you. Be careful when changing the order of Dataset Element columns if you have included Calculated Columns in your Tracking Model. Changing the order of Dataset Element columns can influence the way your Calculated Columns operate.
To arrange Dataset Element columns, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Either:
Select from the Models Sidebar.
or
Select from the Models Sidebar and click in the top of the window.
The Arrange Elements window is displayed, an example is shown below:
4. Select a Dataset Element column and use the arrows available to move it up or down the list:
5. Click Save & Close.
6. Click .
The Dataset Element columns are now displayed in your Tracking Model in the revised order.
Delete Dataset Elements and Dataset Element Columns
Remove any Dataset Elements or Dataset Element Columns from your Tracking Model that you no longer require.
Choose to:
- Delete individual Dataset Elements. This option is only available in Student Tracking Models.
- Delete individual Dataset Element Columns.
- Delete Dataset Elements in bulk. This saves you time when you need to delete a number of Dataset Elements from your Tracking Model.
Delete Individual Dataset Elements
To delete a selected Dataset Elements, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select in the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Dataset Elements window.
4. Either:
Click in your selected Dataset Element column. All the Dataset Elements used in the selected column are displayed. Click in the Dataset Element that you want to delete.
or
Click in your selected Dataset Element column. Click on the Data tab to view the individual Dataset Elements. Click in the Dataset Element that you want to delete.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to delete this data element from this model?
5. Select Yes and close the windows to go back to the Tracking Model screen.
6. Click .
The Dataset Element is removed from your Tracking Model.
Delete Individual Dataset Element Columns
To delete a selected Dataset Element columns, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Either:
Select in the Models Sidebar and click in the Dataset Element column that you want to delete.
or
Right click in the header of the Dataset Element column you want to delete and select Delete Column from the menu displayed.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to delete this data element from this model?
4. Select Yes and close the windows to go back to the Tracking Model screen.
5. Click .
The Dataset Element column is removed from your Tracking Model.
Bulk Delete Dataset Element Columns
To delete Dataset Elements columns in bulk, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select in the Models Sidebar.
The Manage Dataset Elements window is displayed.
4. Use the check boxes available to select the Dataset Elements columns you want to delete. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Dataset Element columns displayed.
5. Use to select Delete Elements.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to delete this data element from this model?
6. Select Yes.
7. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
8. Click .
Your selected Dataset Element columns are removed from your Tracking Model.
Reset Dataset Element Columns
Reset Dataset Elements columns if you want to remove all the Dataset Element columns in your Tracking Model. None of the Pupil Characteristics in your Tracking Model are lost by when you choose to reset Dataset Element columns. This is useful when you have copied a Tracking Model and want to track new Dataset Elements for the pupils listed.
To reset Dataset Elements columns, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select in the Models Sidebar.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to reset the dataset elements on this model?
4. Select Yes.
You are prompted The dataset elements on this model have been reset. The model will now reload.
5. Click OK.
6. Click .
The Run Model screen is displayed without any Dataset Element columns.
Duplicate a Dataset Element Column
Choose to duplicate a Dataset Element column in your Tracking Manager. This is useful when you want to apply either a Gradeset or Transpose Object to a Dataset Element column. You can list both original data and the altered data in your Tracking Model.
To duplicate a Dataset Element column, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Right click in the header of the Dataset Element column you want to duplicate and select Duplicate Column from the menu displayed.
4. Click .
The duplicated Dataset Element column is displayed in your Tracking Model.
Activate Dataset Element Columns
Choose to activate a Dataset Element column to start using it in your Tracking Model.
To activate Dataset Element columns, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select from the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Dataset Elements window.
Disabled Dataset Element columns are identified by the icon.
4. Use the check boxes available to select the Dataset Element columns you want to activate. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Dataset Element columns displayed.
5. Use to select Activate Elements.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to activate this data element from this model?
6. Select Yes.
7. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
8. Click .
Your Tracking Model is displayed with the activated Dataset Element columns.
Disable Dataset Element Columns
You can temporarily disable selected Dataset Element columns to suit you. Disabling a Dataset Element column blocks the active status until you need it again.
To disable Dataset Element columns, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select from the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Dataset Elements window.
Active Dataset Element columns are identified by the icon.
4. Use the check boxes available to select the Dataset Element columns you want to disable. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Dataset Element columns displayed..
5. Use to select Disable Elements.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to disable this data element from this model?
6. Select Yes.
7. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
8. Click .
Your Tracking Model is displayed without the disabled Dataset Element columns.
Quickly disable a selected Dataset Element column using the right click menu in the header of a selected Dataset Element column. Select Disable Column from the menu displayed. |
Hide Dataset Element Columns
Choose to hide a Dataset Element column if you do not want it to display in your Tracking Model. Your selection influences the display of the Dataset Element column only. The data in a hidden Dataset Element column is still active.
You may choose to temporarily hide a Dataset Element column to save space, select to show it again at any time. Also choose to hide Dataset Element columns that you have referenced in Calculated Columns, if required.
To hide Dataset Element columns, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select from the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Dataset Elements window.
Visible Datasets Elements columns are identified by the icon.
4. Use the check boxes available to select the Dataset Element columns you want to hide. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Dataset Element columns displayed.
5. Use to select Hide Elements.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to hide this data element from this model?
6. Select Yes.
7. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
8. Click .
Your Tracking Model is displayed without the hidden Dataset Element columns.
Quickly hide a selected Dataset Element column using the right click menu in the header of a selected Dataset Element column. Select Hide Column from the menu displayed. |
Show Dataset Element Columns
To show Dataset Element columns, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select from the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Dataset Elements window.
Hidden Dataset Element columns have no icon in the column.
4. Use the check boxes available to select the Dataset Element columns you want to show. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Dataset Element columns displayed.
5. Use to select Show Elements.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to show this data element from this model?
6. Select Yes.
7. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
8. Click .
Your Tracking Model is displayed with the Dataset Element columns you have selected to show.
