Add Pupil Characteristics
Add more pupil characteristics to your Tracking Model to suit you. For example, the pupil's academic house or a photograph of the pupil.
To add pupil characteristics, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Either:
Click and select Add Characteristic Element from the drop down list.
or
Click in the Models Sidebar.
or
Click in the Models Sidebar and select in the window displayed.
The Create Characteristic Element window is displayed. An example is shown below:
4. Complete the sections available:
Section | Explanation |
Characteristic Details | Element Type. Select the type of Pupil Characteristic you want to display in your Tracking Model. Pupil Field. The fields displayed here are determined by your selection in Element Type. Select the Pupil Characteristic you want to display in your Tracking Model from the drop down lists available. |
Characteristic Properties | Element Name. Change the name used to describe the Pupil Characteristic, if required. Ensure that it is still easily identifiable. Element Code. Change the code used to identify the Pupil Characteristic. Use a more concise term if required, this is displayed in your Tracking Model. Element Active. Select Yes to start using the Pupil Characteristic. Active Pupil Characteristic are identified by the icon in the Manage Characteristic Elements window. Selecting No makes the Pupil Characteristic inactive and you are unable to use it. |
Characteristic Options | Hidden Element. Choose to hide the Pupil Characteristic if you do not want it to display in your Tracking Model. You may choose to temporarily hide a Pupil Characteristic to save space. Visible Pupil Characteristics are identified by the icon in the Manage Characteristic Elements window. Element Sorting. Select an appropriate Sorting Object to sort the information displayed for the Pupil Characteristic. Element Style. Select a Tracking Style to apply to the information displayed. For example, apply a style which colour codes academic houses. This makes your Tracking Model easier to read 'at-a-glance'. Click if you need to add a new Tracking Style. See Stage 1: Style Wizard for more information on creating a new Tracking Style. |
5. Click Save & Close.
6. Click .
The Pupil Characteristic is displayed in your Tracking Model.
Edit Pupil Characteristics
Choose to edit the properties of the Pupil Characteristics in your Tracking Model. For example, change the fields identifying Pupil Characteristics in your Tracking Model or apply a Tracking Style to the information displayed.
Choose to:
- Edit individual Pupil Characteristics. Use this for editing any of the properties in your selected Pupil Characteristic.
- Edit Pupil Characteristics in bulk. Use this for editing the name, sorting or styling properties of multiple Pupil Characteristics.
- Edit Pupil Characteristics sorting and styling in bulk. Use this as a shortcut to setting up all Pupil Characteristics with the same sorting and styling properties.
Edit Individual Pupil Characteristics
To edit individual Pupil Characteristics, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Either:
Select in the Models Sidebar and click in the Pupil Characteristic that you want to edit.
or
Right click in the header of the Pupil Characteristic you want to edit and select Edit Column from the menu displayed.
The Edit Characteristic Element window is displayed. An example is shown below:
4. Edit the sections available as required:

Characteristic Details | Do not edit these fields. |

5. Click Save & Close.
6. Click .
The amended Pupil Characteristic is displayed in your Tracking Model.
Bulk Edit Pupil Characteristics
To edit Pupil Characteristics properties in bulk, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select in the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Characteristic Elements window.
4. Click at the top of the window.
5. Use the fields and drop down boxes available to edit the properties of the Pupil Characteristics displayed. Choose to edit the name, code, sorting or styling properties of any of the Pupil Characteristics in your Tracking Model.
6. Click to save the changes you have made.
7. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
Bulk Edit Pupil Characteristic Sorting and Styling
Setup all Pupil Characteristics with the same sorting and styling properties, if required:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select in the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Characteristic Elements window.
4. Use the check boxes to select the Pupil Characteristics you want to edit. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Pupil Characteristics displayed.
5. Use to select Element Objects.
6. Select the Sorting Object and Tracking Style you want to apply using the drop down boxes available.
7. Click Save & Close to go back to the Manage Characteristic Elements window.
8. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
9. Click .
Arrange Pupil Characteristics
Change the order that Pupil Characteristics are displayed in your Tracking Model to suit you. For example, list pupil surname followed by preferred name.
To arrange Pupil Characteristics, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Either:
Select from the Models Sidebar.
or
Select from the Models Sidebar and click in the top of the window.
The Arrange Characteristic Elements window is displayed, an example is shown below:
4. Select a Pupil Characteristic and use the arrows available to move it up or down the list:
5. Click Save & Close.
6. Click .
The Pupil Characteristics are now displayed in your Tracking Model in the revised order.
Delete Pupil Characteristics
Remove any Pupil Characteristics from your Tracking Model that you no longer require. For example, remove selected default Pupil Characteristics from your Tracking Model.
Choose to:
- Delete individual Pupil Characteristics.
- Delete Pupil Characteristics in bulk. This saves time when you need to delete a number of Pupil Characteristics from your Tracking Model.
Delete Individual Pupil Characteristics
To delete a selected Pupil Characteristic, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Either:
Select in the Models Sidebar and click in the Pupil Characteristic that you want to delete.
or
Right click in the header of the Pupil Characteristic you want to delete and select Delete Column from the menu displayed.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to delete this characteristic element from this model?
4. Select Yes.
5. Click .
The Pupil Characteristic is removed from your Tracking Model.
Bulk Delete Pupil Characteristics
Remove any Pupil Characteristics from your Tracking Model that you no longer require. For example, remove selected default Pupil Characteristics from your Tracking Model. Choosing to delete Pupil Characteristics in bulk saves time when you need to delete a number of Pupil Characteristics from your Tracking Model.
To delete Pupil Characteristics in bulk, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select in the Models Sidebar.
The Manage Characteristic Elements window is displayed.
4. Use the check boxes available to select the Pupil Characteristics you want to delete. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Pupil Characteristics displayed.
5. Use to select Delete Elements.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to delete this characteristic element from this model?
6. Select Yes.
7. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
8. Click .
Your selected Pupil Characteristics are removed from your Tracking Model.
Reset Pupil Characteristics
Reset Pupil Characteristics if you want to remove all the Pupil Characteristics in your Tracking Model. You can then add default Pupil Characteristics to your Tracking Model. None of the Datasets Elements in your Tracking Model are lost by when you choose to reset Pupil Characteristics.
To reset Pupil Characteristics, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select in the Models Sidebar.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to reset the characteristic elements on this model?
4. Select Yes.
You are prompted The characteristic elements on this model have been reset. The model will now reload.
5. Click OK.
The Run Model screen is displayed. An example is shown below:
6. Click to add the default Pupil Characteristic fields for your pupils.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to add the default characteristics for this model?
7. Select Yes.
8. Click .
Your Tracking Model is displayed with the default Pupil Characteristics.
Activate Pupil Characteristics
Choose to activate a Pupil Characteristic to start using it in your Tracking Model.
To activate Pupil Characteristics, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select from the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Characteristic Elements window.
Disabled Pupil Characteristics are identified by the icon.
4. Use the check boxes available to select the Pupil Characteristics you want to activate. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Pupil Characteristics displayed.
5. Use to select Activate Elements.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to activate this characteristic element from this model?
6. Select Yes.
7. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
8. Click .
Your Tracking Model is displayed with the activated Pupil Characteristic columns.
Disable Pupil Characteristics
You can temporarily disable selected Pupil Characteristics to suit you. Disabling a Pupil Characteristic blocks the active status until you need it again.
To disable Pupil Characteristics, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select from the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Characteristic Elements window.
Active Pupil Characteristic are identified by the icon.
4. Use the check boxes available to select the Pupil Characteristics you want to disable. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Pupil Characteristics displayed.
5. Use to select Disable Elements.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to disable this characteristic element from this model?
6. Select Yes.
7. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
8. Click .
Your Tracking Model is displayed without the disabled Pupil Characteristic columns.
Quickly disable a selected Pupil Characteristic using the right click menu in the header of a selected Pupil Characteristic. Select Disable Column from the menu displayed. |
Hide Pupil Characteristics
Choose to hide a Pupil Characteristic if you do not want it to display in your Tracking Model.
To hide Pupil Characteristics, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select from the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Characteristic Elements window.
Visible Pupil Characteristics are identified by the icon.
4. Use the check boxes available to select the Pupil Characteristics you want to hide. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Pupil Characteristics displayed.
5. Use to select Hide Elements.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to hide this characteristic element from this model?
6. Select Yes.
7. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
8. Click .
Your Tracking Model is displayed without the hidden Pupil Characteristic columns.
Quickly hide a selected Pupil Characteristic using the right click menu in the header of a selected Pupil Characteristic. Select Hide Column from the menu displayed. |
Show Pupil Characteristics
You may choose to temporarily hide a Pupil Characteristic to save space, select to show it again at any time.
To show Pupil Characteristics, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Select from the Models Sidebar to display the Manage Characteristic Elements window.
Hidden Pupil Characteristics have no icon in the column.
4. Use the check boxes available to select the Pupil Characteristics you want to show. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Pupil Characteristics displayed.
5. Use to select Show Elements.
You are prompted Are you sure you want to show this characteristic element from this model?
6. Select Yes.
7. Click Close Window to return to your Tracking Model.
8. Click .
Your Tracking Model is displayed with the Pupil Characteristic columns you have selected to show.
