Create a chart with the data from your Tracking Model. This is a useful visual tool when analysing or presenting Tracking Models. Select the type of chart you want to display to suit you, for example a pie chart or a bar chart. Model Charts can be displayed on a separate tab or as a sparkline within a column of your Tracking Model matrix.
To create a Model Chart, follow the steps below:
1. Select the Manage Models tab and double click on the Tracking Folder containing the Tracking Model you want to work with.
2. Double click on your selected Tracking Model.
The Run Models screen is displayed for your selected Tracking Model.
3. Either:
Select from the Chart Options and Tasks menu in the Models Sidebar.
or
Use and select Create Model Chart from the drop down list.
or
Select and click in the top of the Manage Model Charts window.
The Create Chart window is displayed. An example is shown below:
4. Complete the sections available:
Section | Explanation |
Chart Type | Chart Render Type. Choose the chart to be displayed as a sparkline in your Tracking Model matrix or in a separate chart tab. Chart Type. Select the type of chart that you want to create. Select the most appropriate type for the data that you want to display. Chart Group By. Select to group data by pupil or Dataset Element. This is only displayed when working with chart tab charts. Chart Position. Select whether the chart is displayed in the X-Axis or Y-Axis of your Tracking Model matrix. This is only displayed when working with sparkline charts. Chart Order. Select Forward to label the Y-Axis of your Model Chart from lowest to highest value. Select Reverse to label the Y-Axis of your Model Chart from highest to lowest value. |
Chart Details | Chart Name/Title. Enter a name used to describe the chart. Ensure that it is still easily identifiable. Chart Code. Edit the code used to identify the chart. Use a more concise term if required, this is displayed in the chart tab. Chart Icon. Select an icon to display in the chart tab. Choose different icons to identify different types of chart, if required. Chart Active. Select Yes to start using the chart. Selecting No makes the chart inactive and you are unable to use it. |
5. Select the Chart Properties tab and complete the sections available. These vary according to the Chart Type you have selected in the Chart Details tab. The Chart Properties tab is not available when creating sparkline Model Charts.
To setup a Chart Tab Pie Chart:
Section | Explanation |
Chart Details | Chart Dimension. Set an image size for your pie chart. Select a lower pixel if you are generating a number of pie charts in the same tab. |
Pie Chart Render Options | Show Line Labels. Selecting Yes clearly labels your pie chart, identifying each slice and showing it as a percentage of the total Dataset Element. Line Label Colour. Enter a colour for the lines to your pie chart labels. Pie Slice Margin. Set a margin separating each slice of your pie chart. |
To setup a Chart Tab Bar Chart:
Section | Explanation |
Chart Details | Chart Width. Chart Height. Use the drop down lists available to set the size of your bar chart. |
Bar Chart Render Options | Bar Margin. Set a margin separating each bar in your chart. X-Axis Tick Angle. Set the label angle for the X-Axis of your bar chart. |
To setup a Chart Tab Line Chart:
Section | Explanation |
Chart Details | Chart Width. Chart Height. Use the drop down lists available to set the size of your line chart. |
Line Chart Render Options | X-Axis Tick Angle. Set the label angle for the X-Axis of your line chart. Y-Axis Min. Set the minimum value for the Y-Axis of your line chart. Bear in mind the values you are plotting on your chart. Y-Axis Max. Set the maximum value for the Y-Axis of your line chart. Y-Axis Ticks. Set the number of values displayed on the Y-Axis of your line chart. |
6. Select the Chart Data tab. Use the check boxes available to select the Dataset Elements columns you want to include in your chart. Check the box in the header row to select all of the Dataset Elements columns displayed.
7. Click Save & Close.
8. Click .
Your chart is displayed in your Tracking Model.

Quickly create a pie chart using the right click menu in the header of a selected Dataset Element or Calculated Column. Select Copy to Pie Chart from the menu displayed. |
