Use the Communication Options screen in the Features tab to enable the notifications feature in the Parent Portal. Enabling notifications allows portal users to subscribe to email and SMS correspondence from the Parent Portal. You may also use this to allow parents to view past emails and SMS messages sent from the Parent Portal.
To enable and configure notifications in the Parent Portal, follow the steps below:
- In the Parent Portal Manager module, select the Features tab.
- Select Communication Options from the right hand menu. The Communication Options screen is displayed:
Your basic school details and Parent Portal settings are listed in the screen displayed. This information is taken from the Portal Configuration option and the School Manager module. Use the fields available to configure notifications and communication options in the Parent Portal:
Section Field Explanation Notifications Enable Notifications Select 'Open' to enable the notifications feature in the Parent Portal. Notifications are then listed in the 'My Notifications' screen under the 'Communication' menu in the Parent Portal. The Parent Portal allows parents to subscribe to notifications when entries are made in the Registration, Detentions and Rewards & Conduct modules. E-Mail History & Options Enable E-Mail History Select the checkbox to enable past emails to be visible to parents in the Parent Portal. Previous emails sent from the Parent Portal are then listed in the 'E-Mail History' screen under the 'Communication' menu in the Parent Portal. Enable E-Mail Subscription Select the checkbox to allow parents to subscribe to emails in the Parent Portal. Parents can then choose the email categories they wish to subscribe to in the 'E-Mail Subscriptions' screen under the 'Communication' menu in the Parent Portal. SMS History & Options Enable SMS Registration Select the checkbox to enable parents to link their mobile telephone number to their Parent Portal account. This feature may be useful for parents who wish to set up SMS correspondence in the Parent Portal. Parents can then link their mobile telephone number in the 'SMS Registration' screen under the 'Communication' menu in the Parent Portal. Enable SMS History Select the checkbox to enable past SMS messages to be visible to parents in the Parent Portal. Previous text messages sent from the Parent Portal are then listed in the 'SMS History' screen under the 'Communication' menu in the Parent Portal. Enable SMS Subscription Select the checkbox to allow parents to subscribe to SMS messages in the Parent Portal. Parents can then choose the SMS categories they wish to subscribe to in the 'SMS Subscriptions' screen under the 'Communication' menu in the Parent Portal. Either:
Click Save Options when finished.
orClick Reload Options to revert to previously saved settings.
